Video Editing

A range of video editing tools are freely available to download for your mobile device or your computer. I tried a few mobile apps with the aim of adding a text title to the beginning of the video hoping that this would appear on the thumbnail image in the gallery to make it easier to see which clip was which, but text captions could be a useful addition anyway to make  video-clips more ‘multi-modal’ and to assist deaf learners.

VideoShow app

This app for Android and iOS provided an easy-to-use interface with the option to add a ‘subtitle’, change the font and font colour and reposition but not resize it. However, it did not appear on the thumbnail in the gallery (on an Android Hudl, only on the clip when played, so did not solve the problem.

Movie Creator Beta

This app for Windows Phone users also looked very promising, allowing the addition of a title screen before the clip started. This was easy to add and the text looked good on a plain background. But yet again, the title screen did not show up in the gallery – the thumbnail still showed the first filmed frame.

Best Free Video Editing Software 2015

PC Advisor reviews 14 of the best free tools to use for video editing on your computer.  I didn’t explore these as I was mainly interested in just making small changes to clips on the mobile device they were filmed on (mainly just adding titles and/or text captions).  These would presumably be more powerful and great to explore if you are going to spend more time on video editing.
